PM Manmohan Singh talks security with service chiefs

Prime minister Manmohan Singh on Monday reviewed the overall security in wake of killing of Osama bin Laden and ISI chief Shuja Pasha’s threat that Pakistan has identified targets in India and rehearsed for attacks.

Singh was briefed by the service chiefs about India’s defence preparedness and coastal security. “Issues like changing security situation in Pakistan and the situation along the Sino-Indian border were discussed,” defence ministry officials said.

The PM’s security review meeting comes a week after the defence minister met the three service chiefs and the NSA.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, a few Indian army officers, who are specialists in counter-insurgency, are all set to meet US Special Forces in Fort Bragg, an US army base.

The Indian group has senior officers with  experience of fighting counter-insurgency in J&K to the north-east. The week-long programme entails counter-insurgency presentations, discussions on operations and maneuvers to deal with it in the urban scenario.

A source told DNA that the team’s visit w as planned long back and did not come about not after  Operations Geronimo that killed Oasama.”
