PM, Congress leaders miss Sonia at Rajiv Gandhi award function

Senior Congress leader Karan Singh chose the occassion to recall the tough times when Rajiv Gandhi had become the prime minister after the assassination of Indira Gandhi.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and senior party leaders missed Congress President Sonia Gandhi during an award ceremony in Delhi.

"Every year Sonia Gandhi is among us during this function. But she could not come here today as she was unwell. All of us are missing her. We pray to God that she recovers fully soon and guide us once again," Singh said while delivering his sppech at Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award distribution ceremony in Delhi.

Senior Congress leader Karan Singh chose the occassion to recall the tough times when Rajiv Gandhi had become the prime minister after the assassination of Indira Gandhi.

He said Rajiv Gandhi would have been all the more successful had he become the Prime Minister for the second time. He also remembered the "successful" organisation of the Asian Games in 1982 under the late prime minister's leadership.

"We all pray for Sonia Gandhi's health," Karan Singh said and asked Rahul to take forward his family responsibilities.

Party treasurer Motilal Vora also wished Gandhi "good health" recalling she used to attend the function every year.
