Planning a vacation and want to know about the tour packages? Are you worried about booking tickets for your trip?

Just walk into any one of the 232 post offices across Gujarat to either know about tour packages or to book your air, train or bus tickets.

The air tickets will be available for all domestic and international airlines while bus tickets will be provided for private bus services only. Given Gujaratis penchant for travel, and how it can give a boost to the travel industry in the state, India Post and ARM I-Solutions have jointly launched the Genie-Ease-Ticket (GET) scheme in 232 post offices across the state from Saturday.

Under this scheme, now you can book your air, train and bus tickets at these post offices.

That's not all. The post offices will also be offering you bookings for hotel rooms and tour packages.  For the ease of booking tickets, well you may have to pay 5%-10% extra.

Karuna Pillai, chief postmaster general, Gujarat Circle, said the initiative would help people in saving their time and money as well. She said that India Post has a huge and strong network in the state which would be utilised according to the rising demand.

There are 9,056 post offices in Gujarat. Apart from booking tickets, India Post in Gujarat already provides various value added services such as speed post, business post, bill mail service, express parcel post, retail post, logistics post and direct post among others.

Through theses services, the department has generated Rs150 crore in 2009-08 by way of income. It was Rs125 crore in 2007-08. Commenting on the move Usman Fayaz, chairman, ARM I-Solutions Pvt. Ltd said that by launching the Genie-Ease-Ticket (GET) at 232 post offices, it will serve as a one-stop-shop for booking air, train and bus tickets.

He said the project was first launched in 27 post offices in Tamil Nadu in May 2008.  Now GET is available in more than 371 post offices in Tamil Nadu.

While in Karnataka the system has already been introduced in 327 post offices and in Kerala it is available at 177 post offices.

GET is a software which will be connected to all the 232 post offices in the state. According to Fayaz, postal staffs have been trained to use the software with a 15-day training programme.
