Accusing the UPA government of mishandling the Air India pilots' stir, BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley today demanded immediate intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to end the stalemate in the national carrier.

"Government's approach with regard to the functioning and the management of the Air India over a period of time has finally led to a crisis in the national carrier," he said.

"Neither the Air India management nor the Civil Aviation ministry is able to handle the current crisis," Jaitley said and demanded immediate intervention of the prime minister in resolving the impasse.

Even the prime minister during his Independence Day address to the nation mentioned about a package for revival of the Air India, the BJP general secertary told reporters here.

"He (prime minister) should intervene and resolve the ongoing stir (in Air India)" he said.

Jaitley was answering questions at a press conference where he released the BJP manifesto for the October 13 Haryana assembly election.
