The Peenya police have rescued a teenage girl, who was allegedly kidnapped and sold to a youth from Garhmukteshwar in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district.

Arvind, who bought the girl for Rs70,000 has been arrested. He reportedly told the police that he had married the girl. Police sources said the girl might have run away from home, and was befriended by someone who later sold her.

The police took up the investigation following a complaint by businessman Radheshyam, the girl’s father. He reportedly told the police that some persons had kidnapped his daughter from the city on April 19.

A police team led by sub-inspector Manjunath traced the girl to Garhmukteshwar, about 100 km from Delhi, and rescued her.
The accused, Arvind, reportedly told the police that someone who had befriended the girl brought her to Uttarakhand. The arrested man said he had bought the girl from Haldwani in that state, police said.

The girl and the accused were brought to the city. While the minor was reunited with her parents, a city court remanded Arvind to judicial custody.

A police officer privy to the investigation, said the girl was poor in studies. Her college had warned her that her parents would be informed of her lack of interest in studies.

Fearing parental reprimand, she ran away from home and took a train from Yeshwanthpur. “She had only `500 with her. She purchased a ticket and boarded the ladies’ compartment. Her intention was to go to her grandparents’ home in Gujarat, but she changed her plan and went to Haridwar, where she met the man who sold her to Arvind,” the officer said.
