PDP tries to clear air over vision map

A row has erupted over main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s vision document showcasing a controversial map of Jammu and Kashmir in three different colours apparently demarcating its geographical boundaries into three parts — two of them occupied by Pakistan and China.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah reacted to the map saying, “We, too, want to make borders irrelevant so that people have freedom to move freely. I do not think that gifting any part of our state to anybody will be acceptable.”

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday gave a presentation about their future vision document and in one of the slides showed the map of the state in three different colors —- red to the part occupied by China, green to PoK and yellow to the part comprising Srinagar. The map was superimposed with the logo and flags of Saarc nations with their currencies in the background.

The PDP leader tried to clear the air on Sunday, saying the map only showed the ground position of Jammu and Kashmir and there was no question of ceding any territory to any country.
