Palanpur residents will get piped gas: Narendra Modi

'Piped gas will soon reach the households of Palanpur. The state government has initiated the tender process to lay gas pipelines between Mehsana and Palanpur,' said the Gujarat chief minister.

Residents of Palanpur in North Gujarat will get piped gas soon, chief minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday. Modi was speaking at the 'Urjashakti' function organised in Palanpur as part of the culmination of the year-long Swarnim Gujarat celebrations.

"Piped gas will soon reach the households of Palanpur. The state government has initiated the tender process to lay gas pipelines between Mehsana and Palanpur," Modi said at the function, attended by thousands of people from various districts of North Gujarat.

He said that many a time, citizens have to face a lot of hardships for arranging gas cylinders, but with piped gas in every household, there would be no such need. He added that the government had spent crores of rupees for laying the 2,200 km gas grid across the state.

Modi said that the state government had taken decisive steps to promote solar power generation and that the state was poised to emerge as the solar power capital of the world.
He added that the state was also gearing up to tap other renewable energy sources.

He informed that power generation capacity of the state had increased from 7,500 MW to 13,500 MW at present, and would reach 18,000 MW soon.
