Over 80,000 lawyers stay away from work in Bihar

Over 80,000 lawyers across the state stayed away from work today in response to the five-day strike called by Bihar State Bar Council demanding denotification of the order for holding evening courts between 7.00pm and 9.00pm.
     
"Over 80,000 lawyers across the state proceeded on cease work from today paralysing proceedings of Patna High Court as well as subordinate judiciary," Council chairman BP Sharma said.
     
The bar council general body in its meeting denounced the continuation of the evening courts despite repeated requests.
     
The apex body of advocates took note of violation of notification and transfer of cases of evening courts without consent of the contesting party, state Bar Council Officiating Secretary Alok Kumar said.
     
The meeting, presided over by Sharma, also urged lawyers to come forward and fight against rampant corruption in courts in the interest of general public.
     
The council has invited presidents and general secretaries of all bar associations on Feb 19 for taking stock of the situation.
