Over 67lakh metric tonne paddy lifted in Punjab, Haryana

Over 67lakh metric tonne paddy crop has been lifted in Punjab and Haryana during the ongoing Kharif Marketing season 2009-2010.

In Punjab, out of total procurement of 49.96lakh metric tonne, state owned agencies have bought 48.62 lakh metric tonne while rest is procured by private traders, an official release said here today.

Among the government agencies, Pungrain procured 13.18lakh metric tonne, Markfed 9.95lakh metric tonne, Punsup 11.61lakh metric tonne, PSWC 6.39lakh metric tonne and Paic was able to procure 4.80lakh metric tonne of paddy. FCI bought 2.66 lakh metric tonne.

In Haryana, the total arrival of paddy has reached 17.19lakh metric tonne so far with daily arrival of over one lakh MT of crop in state grain markets.

While disclosing this here today, a spokesman said that of total arrival, over 14.96 lakh MT of paddy was purchased by various procuring agencies and over 2.95lakh metric tonne of paddy by millers and dealers, he added.  He said that District Kurukshetra was maintaining its lead in paddy arrival where over 6.34lakh metric tonne of paddy had arrived in the mandis, followed by district Karnal, where over 3.72lakh metric tonne of paddy had arrived.

District Kaithal had recorded an arrival of over 2.31lakh metric tonne of paddy, Fatehabad over 1.62lakh metric tonnes, Ambala about 1.44lakh metric tonne and Yamunanagar 94,148 metric tonnes.

The spokesman said that 63,693 metric tonne of bajra had arrived in the mandis, out of which 57,795 metric tonne of bajra had been purchased by the various procuring agencies at Minimum Support Price of Rs840 per quintal and the rest 8,898 metric tonne of Bajra had been purchased by the traders.
