Over 5000 in fray for municipal polls in Haryana

As many as 5,464 candidates will fight it out in the civic polls in Haryana scheduled for May 20, a spokesperson of state election commission said today.

The ruling Congress and main opposition INLD have already announced not to contest the polls on party symbols.

Elections would be held in 35 wards of municipal corporation (Faridabad) and 710 wards of 38 municipal councils, the spokesman added.

Over 20 lakh voters are likely to exercise their franchise during the elections, in which Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used.
