Over 1 lakh students to take boards in Ahmedabad this year

More than one lakh students from the city will appear in this year's HSC (Class 10) and SSC (Class 12) examinations that will be held across the state from March 5.

More than one lakh students from Ahmedabad city will appear in this year's HSC (Class 10) and SSC (Class 12) examinations that will be held across the state from March 5 by Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board.

A total of 64,493 students have registered for the Class 10 examination from Ahmedabad city while 31,421 students have registered for the Class 12 (general stream) and 9,828 students for the Class 12 (science stream) exams.

A total of 67,591 students will appear in the exams in rural areas of Ahmedabad district. Of these, 44,005 will appear in the SSC exam, 19,761 in the HSC (general stream) examination, and 3,835 students in the HSC (science stream) exam.

District education officer (DEO) of Ahmedabad city, RI Patel, who also holds the additional charge of Ahmedabad rural, said the city had been divided into 8 zones for SSC exams and 6 for HSC exam.  "In the city area, SSC exam will be held in 211 different buildings while 150 buildings will be used for HSC exams. Also, 3 zones for SSC and 2 for HSC have been identified in the rural areas," Patel said, adding that 118 buildings for the SSC exam and 63 for the HSC test will be used in the rural areas.

"The helpline and control room will function from 8 in the morning to 8 in the night. Students can visit their examination centres and see the classrooms to which they have been assigned for their examination," Patel said.  He further said that invigilators will be assigned blocks by a draw system and no person connected to the subject of exam will be allowed on the examination campus on that particular day.

"A visitors' register will be kept at the entrance of each exam hall. Section 144 of IPC will be implemented in and around each examination center. All photocopy shops near the exam centers will remain closed during the examination," Patel said. He added that students can bring transparent water bottles inside the exam hall. "Class 12 students can use simple calculators but SSC examinees will not be allowed to use calculators. Students who need writers will get 30 minutes more to write the papers," he said.
