Orissa government today took stock of the situation in the districts of the state close to Dantewada district of Chhattishgarh where Maoists killed 76 CRPF jawans.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik, who took stock of the situation in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Malkangiri districts bordering Dantewada and southern Chhattisgarh this evening, asked the officials to adhere to the standard operation procedure (SOP) during force movement, sources said.

"A lot of issues were discussed in detail pertaining to the strategies which could not be revealed," Mishra told reporters.

The high-level meeting was attended by state home secretary A P Padhi, director general of police (DGP) M M Praharaj, Director (Intelligence) Prakash Mishra and other senior police officers.

Koraput, which saw the killing of 11 security personnel two days before the massacre of CRPF jawans in Dantewada, has been put on high alert.

As Malkangiri district, considered a den of Maoists, was barely 40 km from Dantewada, Patnaik was told that anything could happen in Orissa too, sources said.

"The government had to take careful decisions on its future course of action as any mistake could lead to loss of security personnel," a senior police officer said.
