Three of the eight bodies found from debris are yet to be identified.
On Tuesday, the fire and rescue team at Dudhsagar Dairy in Mehsana finally managed to break into the rubble and found the body of a man who had been missing since the incident. After four days of continuous efforts, the fire at the dairy has been completely doused, making it easier to clear all the debris.
During the clean up operation, the body of an unidentified man was found on Tuesday morning, taking the death toll to eight.
According to Mehsana B-division police, the body has been charred beyond recognition.
Until Monday, seven bodies had been found from the rubble. Rescue teams had been searching for one more person as the authorities had told cops that eight people were working at the time of the blast. After finding this body, police now believe that there is no one left in the debris. However, three out of the eight bodies are yet to be identified, as they were completely burnt and could not be identified.
According to SM Patel of B-division police, DNA test of the body and the family members of the victim would prove the exact identity of these bodies. Apart from DNA test, cops are also trying to identify them through the belongings found during clean up.
"We have found mobile phones, pens, wallets and spectacles of these deceased men from the rubble. It will also throw some light on their identities," said Patel. He also added that the bodies would be handed over to respective family members only after the DNA test results, which are expected to arrive soon.
A team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is also trying to find the exact cause of the fire. On Tuesday, dairy officials told them that the blast occurred due to leakage of ammonia gas in the cold storage. However, that has not been confirmed yet, as the FSL team has not finished its investigation.
