Two killed as newly built roof collapses in Delhi

Two persons, including the owner of a steel factory, were killed and a labourer was injured today when the roof of a building constructed eight days ago collapsed after its support system was removed.

The incident took place at a factory in Wazirpur Industrial Area. One of the deceased has been identified as Anil Jain, the owner of the factory. An unidentified labourer was also killed in the incident.

The injured has been identified as Ravi.

"The roof was built eight days ago. Today, the workers removed the support system for the roof and soon after, it collapsed," a senior police official said.

Jain and two labourers were trapped inside the debris. They were rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital where Jain and the unidentified labourer succumbed to their injuries.

According to the official, the building was old and the owner was constructing a roof on its third floor. He said they were investigating how the roof collapsed.
