One person was injured after being hit by a fellow passenger of the Delhi Metro, following an altercation between the two over a seat.

The incident took place inside a metro train on the Dwarka Sector9-Yamuna Bank line around noon when a group of passengers came and asked Parmeet to get up from a seat saying it was reserved for women.

"Basically, the altercation took place over a seat. When a family got into the train they asked a person who was siting in the corner of a seat to get up claiming that it was a ladies seat.

"But, Parmeet refused to get up saying it was not reserved for women. A scuffle broke out between the two after that," CISF personnel at the Mandi House metro station said quoting eye-witnesses.

"After that, it looks like two members of the family hit the accused and then Parmeet punched one of them in the face," they said. The person was injured and reportedly fainted after which he was brought to the Mandi House station and given first aid.

However, Parmeet justified what he did was right. "Can't I hit back in self-defence if two people encircle me and start hitting me?" he said.
