Omar Abdullah calls on J&K governor after return from Delhi

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah today called on the governor NN Vohra and briefed him about his visit to New Delhi where he met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other central leaders to impress upon them the need for amendments in the AFSPA.

Soon after returning from Delhi this evening, the chief minister briefed the Governor about his discussions with the prime minister and several cabinet ministers.

The chief minister also briefed the Governor about the steps being taken to restore normalcy in the Valley.

During his meeting with the prime minister and his other cabinet colleagues, Omar higlighted the need for amendments in the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) to make it more humane.

He also urged the central leaders to kickstart a political dialogue with the separatists in Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest.
