Nursing student who committed suicide was pregnant

Sagarika Das (22), a third-year student of the Nursing Training Institute (NTI) of the Ispat General Hospital (IGH), hanged herself on Thursday night in her hostel room.

The investigation of the suicide of a nursing student here, allegedly following harassment by a doctor, took a new turn today after it post-mortem report suggested that she was two and half months pregnant, the police said today.

Sagarika Das (22), a third-year student of the Nursing Training Institute (NTI) of the Ispat General Hospital (IGH), hanged herself on Thursday night in her hostel room. A suicide note was also found in the room.

Sagarika's parents, who hail from Sundargarh, and other relatives have alleged that she was under mental stress due to allegedly harassment by a IGH doctor.

She, however, has not mentioned any reason in her suicide note, the sources said. Considering the sensitive nature of the case, a DSP rank officer has been assigned to investigate into the case.
