Moreover, AJL has also increased number of buses plying on the route for the comfort of commuters.
AJL has decided to provide a direct bus to Maninagar and Naroda from RTO circle during peak hours. "As per our survey, 38% commuters had to change bus on this long route. We are providing direct bus to facilitate these commuters," said Utpal Padia, executive director of AJL.
The commuters will get a bus every five minutes. It means that those commuting to and fro between RTO and Pirana will get a bus every two-and-a-half minutes. The direct buses to Maninagar and Naroda will be available during peak hours, i.e. 8 to 11.30 am and 5 to 8.30 pm. During non-peak hours commuters will still have to change a bus at Anjali crossroads. The new schedule will come into effect from Tuesday, said Padia.
AJL is also adding air-conditioned (AC) buses to its fleet. Popularity of AC buses have gone up in summer and commuters prefer waiting for AC buses, said sources in AMC.
AJL is also increasing its fleet size from present 65 buses to 75 buses, of which 10 will be AC buses.
"Addition of 10 buses in fleet will result in addition of 150 trips per day. As a result, the overloading problem will be curbed to some extent," said Padia.
The BRTS ferries more than one lakh people everyday and earns more than Rs7 lakh.
