Now, learn the science behind policing

In an effort to create a better pool of talent equipped to take on the challenges facing the police, the Raksha Shakti University will soon come up with two courses that will deal with police sciences.

Officials at the university claimed that this was the first-of-its-kind course in the entire country. “There are courses available on police administration, but none dealing with police sciences,” said an official.

The Bachelors in Police Sciences (BPS) and Masters in Police Sciences (MPS) programmes will begin once the university shifts to its new campus in Lavad, 5km from Dehgam.

An official of the university said the courses have already got a green signal from the concerned authorities.

“The course will be beneficial to anyone who eventually wishes to join any of the security agencies, including the state police. Graduates and post graduates trained in police sciences will also provide a better pool of resources for the government when looking for recruitment to the state police,” said the official. Moreover, passouts of these courses are also expected to get some reservation during recruitment to the police.

It should be noted that at present there is 5% to15% reservation for students of the Diploma in Police Sciences, and PG Diploma in Police Sciences courses of the university.

The official said both the programmes would be residential, one with the bachelor course with an intake of 60 students per batch while it will be 30 for the master’s programme. Later, the varsity will offer a bachelor’s and master’s course in criminology as well.
