The North-East MP’s Forum has urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for relaxations from service tax in tourism sector.

In a recent letter to the prime minister, the forum said with the 'nascent sector' is helping the youth of the region economically and weaning them away from violence in the region, "this is not the time to burden them with service tax."

Pointing out that many of the youth, the first generation in the service sector do not even know how to keep books of accounts, the letter said "hence, there is a need to give a window of about five years for the young people." The letter, copy of which was released by local MP PD Rai to the media here today, said.

The forum meets in New Delhi regularly to take stock of the development of the region for interacting with the government, he said.
