In a major setback to Sajjan Kumar, a Delhi court issued a non-bailable warrant against the veteran Congress politician on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the massacre of 12 members of two Sikhs families during the 1984 riots.

The warrant was issued in the afternoon, soon after the Delhi high court deferred  hearing of Kumar’s anticipatory bail plea to Thursday. Now, the CBI, which has charged Kumar with murder (section 302), promoting enmity between communities (section 153-A) and criminal conspiracy (section 120 B), can arrest him anytime.

Unhappy over the decision of the high court to defer hearing of his bail plea, Kumar skipped appearance in the lower court, forcing it to issue the warrant. “He [Kumar] is duty-bound to appear before the court,” the magistrate said.
