Noida Police arrested three people on Thursday for allegedly abducting and killing a 20-year-old student of Amity University. Police said the body was thrown in a canal in Aligarh.

“Victim Rohit Singh, a second-year B.Tech student, was the son of a government contractor from Aligarh,” said a police officer.
The trio kidnapped Rohit from Sector 46, Noida, on March 20. They
took him to Panipat and made a ransom call to Rohit’s father.

“They asked him for Rs1 crore in return for Rohit,” senior superintendent of police Ashok Kumar said.

The accused have been identified as Vivek Patel and Saurav Punjabi (from Aligarh), and Vishal Sachdeva (from Panipat). Vivek is the grandson of former Aligarh legislator Indrapal Singh.

“When they didn’t get a response to the ransom call, they killed the victim and threw his body in a canal,” said Kumar. All three were nabbed a day later. Police recovered a car and a pistol
from the trio.
