There was "no proposal" before the West Bengal government for talks with Maoists, home secretary Ardhendu Sen said today.

"There is no proposal for talks with Maoists," Sen said when asked to comment on Union home minister P Chidambaram's promise yesterday that if Maoists halted violence, the Centre would persuade the state governments to talk to them.

Asked to comment on newly raised armed wing of the Maoists-backed People's Committee against Police Atrocities in West Midnapore, he said "We will have to tackle this."

He said six additional companies of CRPF would arrive in West Midnapore for anti-Maoist operations.

On the security of state secretariat Writers' Buildings, "There is no real Maoist threat in Kolkata. But we are alert. There is no specific input about any security threat to Writers' Buildings. If we find something, steps will be taken accordingly," he added.

To a question, Sen said there was no alert from the Centre for Kolkata on a possible Maoist attack.
