No balloon ride for Kankaria carnival visitors on Friday

Thousands of visitors at Kankaria Carnival were disappointed to know that the helium-tethered balloon ride had been cancelled for Friday.

When enquired, an AMC official requesting anonymity said, “The weather was too windy on Friday, due to which we were instructed to stop the balloon ride to avoid any untoward incidents.”

The wind speed on Friday was 28 nautical miles per hour (MPH) however the maximum permissible speed for the helium balloon is 24 nautical MPH. AMC officials also said that the balloon ride would only function on Saturday depending on the wind speeds then.

The balloon ride attracts huge crowds, especially during the carnival when numbers of people taking the ride crosses thousands on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, the sixth day of the Kankaria Carnival was host to a cycle rally in the morning for differently-abled citizens (in pic), which received a lot of appreciation and applause. While in the evening, crowds thronged Kankaria to catch a glimpse of the cultural programme and dance presented by members of Karnataka Sangha Ahmedabad depicting ‘A typical day in a Karnataka village during harvest season’. On the other hand, members of Janki Sewa Samiti presented a wonderful folk dance as well.
