Nine killed in Orissa road mishap

The accident took place early today near Malikeswari temple when the trekker carrying 35 persons were on the way to Khajuria village. The villages had gone to watch an opera show there.

At least nine persons, including two children and four women, were killed and 26 others injured today when a trekker in which they were travelling in collided head on with a speeding truck on NH-42 at Malikeswari in Dhenkanal district.

"The accident took place early today near Malikeswari temple when the trekker carrying 35 persons were on the way to Khajuria village. The villages had gone to watch an opera show there," SDPO Brahmananda Dandapat said.

The injured people were rushed to a local hospital from where ten seriously injured persons were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, he said.

Rest of the injured people were being treated at Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital here.
