In bid to make its presence felt in the international arena of automotive design and manufacturing, the department of transportation and automobile design at National Institute of Design (NID) will take part in the auto expo 2010 in Delhi.

Futuristic models of Ferrari, models of bikes which can change into cars, cars developed especially for Melbourne city and various other models designed by students of NID will be go on display at the expo.

NID has been allotted a stall at the auto expo and the institute will have seven automobile designs developed by their students placed there. Besides 30 students of NID's department of transportation and automobile design, another 30 students of the institute's other departments including product design, lifestyle and accessories design, exhibition design and others, will also visit the international exhibition event.

Talking about the importance of participating in the auto expo, the department co-ordinator Pravin Nahar told DNA: "Being a national institute, it is very important to make our presence felt in the auto expo and show the participants our work."

The models that will be displayed in the exhibition will include the works of the students who graduated this year, apart from the products of current students. The students of NID will also participate in a styling and design conclave organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Two entries from NID have been shortlisted for a design competition called 'SIAM styling challenge' in the auto expo in which the competitors had to design a vehicle for Indian youth for the year 2015. The winners will be announced on the day of the conclave.

Nahar said: "India is becoming an automotive hub and the auto expo at Delhi is at par with other international auto expos. While our students could learn from the exhibition in various aspects, they will also get a good exposure as many auto companies, automotive part manufacturers and designers take part in the expo. They not only gain knowledge of new technologies and materials, but also learn about emerging trends.”
