New software to help Ahmedabad RTOs identify unskilled drivers

Come March, acquiring a driving licence from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) will be a far tougher task than it is today. The RTO plans to implement a new sensor track for issuance of driving licences, as well as software for single window clearance.

An announcement to this effect was made by JP Gupta, commissioner of state transport, at the opening ceremony of the traffic awareness week.

The sensor tracks will keep a close watch on the people attempting to form the number '8' pattern while driving. "In case they make mistakes or falter, it will be easily seen with the help of the sensor track," Gupta said at the programme.

He also said that software named 'Sarthi' will be implemented in the next three months across RTOs, in order to have single window clearance for all RTO-related queries, including the issuance of driving licences.

Gupta was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 'Traffic awareness week' at a children's park in Lal Darwaja area. Along with Gupta, many other senior officers also spoke at the programme.

Several programmes on traffic awareness will be held this week, with new initiatives like distributing pamplets and conducting awareness drives. Around 1,500 school kids with banners, mounted police and a team of the police band participated in the programme.

A rally was flagged off by the joint commissioner of police for traffic department, Satish Varma, at the Income Tax cross roads, and the rally ended at the children's park.
