Beginning this academic year, students seeking admission in engineering colleges will see some change post declaration of all merit lists.

Till last year, the students were following a system called the upgradation structure but this year onward they will have a reshuffle policy.

As per the new policy, students who have already sought admissions in a particular branch and want to change, will have to surrender their previous seat to seek admissions in the new requested branch.

Principal of LD Engineering College and head of the admission committee MN Patel said, "It is not going to affect the career of the students much. The only difference is that first they had the option of holding on to their earlier branch, but now they will get a chance to reshuffle depending on the availability of the college and the branch that they have requested for.''

He, however, added that the students will in no way be affected and would be able to pursue a course of their choice. There is just a little change in the shifting process, he added.

Meanwhile, while the first list on actual admissions are scheduled to be declared on Thursday, officials pointed out that till now the preference among students seems to be mechanical engineering.
