A day after party workers were locked out of the city BJP office by party leaders, Saturday proved a peaceful day, as there were no protests or demonstrations at the spot.

However, many in the party see this lull as the proverbial calm before the storm. They feel that the fury of the ticket claimants' supporters might turn into an undercurrent against the BJP's newly-fielded candidates.

It is interesting to note the new equations that have been formed in the New West zone of the city. This area has been the stronghold of Amit Shah and his supporters all through, but now, with the leader being in jail, the supporters appear to have been left in the lurch.

In fact, some party insiders say that it isn't just Anandiben Patel who has ensured maximum tickets to her supporters. Apparently, Kaushik Patel, vice-president of the state BJP unit, was just as active at promoting his loyalists in Amit Shah's absence. Patel had lost in the last assembly elections from Shahpur constituency.

Now, sources in the party claim that as he has shifted his residence close to Gulab Tower, he is focusing on getting a ticket from the new assembly constituency during the upcoming elections.

After the last day of filing nomination forms, the Ghatlodia, Chandlodia and Gota wards appear to have a BJP undercurrent. In Ghatlodia, 11 people have filed nomination forms as independent candidates. All the eleven are believed to be supporters of Amit Shah loyalist Nolesh Patel, who has been denied a ticket in the election.

The party has also given a ticket to Jatin Patel, BJP president of Ghatlodia ward, who is also believed to be a business partner of Kaushik Patel's.
