Delhi Government has decided to construct a new building at a city school which witnessed a stampede that left five girls dead almost three weeks ago.

The Education Department has written a letter to the MCD commissioner seeking to temporarily shift the Khajuri Khas Government Secondary School to a school run by the civic agency at Sri Rampur colony, officials said.

In the letter, the education department said both the schools can be run in shifts from the MCD school building till a new building comes up in about a year.

Five girls were killed and 34 other students were injured in the stampede in the school on September 10 when they were trying to make their way up and down a staircase after being asked to shift classrooms during an examination.

On the report of the magisterial probe committee, Delhi government has already decided to terminate the principal from his post and suspend three senior functionaries, holding them guilty for the stampede.

The school reopened today amid protests from locals and parents demanding a CBI probe into the tragic incident.
