NCP has demanded that the territorial government introduce measures like that adopted in neighbouring Tamil Nadu to regulate fees levied by private educational institutions.

Party local unit president, in a press release here, said there were instances of private schools levying as much as Rs 1 lakh for a seat in LKG and heavy tutition fees. The administration should not remain a silent spectator to such practices and intervene in the matter, he said.

Stating that there has been a nearly 10% fall in results of a large number of government higher secondary schools in the plus two exams, despite its teachers drawing better pay now and getting all facilities, he demanded an enquiry into what ailed such schools.

He pointed out that private schools, despite paying very poor salaries to teachers, were coming out on top with cent per cent pass.
