The Indian Navy Band enthralled Amdavadi audience with their rhythmic beats and melodic tunes at its symphony concert at the Kankaria Lake on Sunday evening. The band presented a number of Hollywood and Bollywood tunes alongwith tunes based on Indian Classical music ragas.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had organised the event as part of the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of Gujarat attaining statehood. Chief minister Narendra Modi could not be present due to Sathya Sai Baba's unfortunate demise on Sunday. However, revenue minister Anandiben Patel, social justice and empowerment minister, Fakirbhai Vaghela, MPs Dr Kirit Solanki and Jayshriben Patel, along with officials from the Indian army and navy graced the function.

Thanks to the vacation and the Sunday factor there was a huge crowd at Kankaria Lake that enjoyed the Navy Band playing some popular melodies. The band played many a pop hit, including Bollywood numbers such as Zubi dubi zubi dubi and All is well among others. It also played a tune based on Indian Classical Music raga Bhupali.

The only Gujarati member of the Navy Band, DS Archarya informed that the band was initiated with just 40 members back in 1945 and now it has around 600 members.

The audience was literally swayed by the show. "I am enthralled. I really found it hard to stop myself from dancing when the band played 'rock and roll madly'," said Anmol Joshi, a resident of Ghodasar. He said that it was a treat for visitors of Kankaria Lake.
Another visitor, Rakesh Patel from Paldi, said that the AMC should continue organising such events, especially on Sundays during the vacation period.
