The audience watched in pin drop silence the four-minute movie at the National Institute of Design (NID) auditorium, and then exploded into whistles and cheering for a well-made short film, which was made by none other than Laljibhai, fondly called ‘Lalu’, the 22-year-old youth who sells tea at NID’s gate. “I never thought I would be making a film. But I did and enjoyed it a lot” said Lalu standing on the podium and addressing the audience who had come to watch the screening of his film.

Talking about the making of his four-minute film called ‘Ehsaas’ which he himself scripted and directed, Lalu said, “It was on Saturday when I was chatting with the students of NID as usual. They suggested that I should make a film myself and they would help me. I did the brainstorming myself and came up with the story line.”

Lalu’s short film conveys a social message to the youth to quit whiling away their time and to work hard and earn a respectable living.

Tarun Deep Girdher, a faculty of NID who was watching the screening of the film said, “It was a simple story put across in a beautiful way. It clearly shows how thought processes take place in people’s mind. It’s a big thing for a first timer and an effort which is worth appreciating.”

Assisted by around 10 NID students, the shooting was completed in around four hours on Sunday. The entire shooting and editing of the film was completed within three days.
