Chief minister and Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) president Narendra Modi is busy handling his party and state affairs while GCA vice-president Amit Shah has got entangled in the alleged fake encounter issue.

In their absence, association vice-president Parimal Nathwani has stepped in to deal with GCA's routine affairs. Nathwani has been at the helm of affairs for more than six weeks. And he took very little time to settle down and show his corporate-person qualities.

"Immediately he raised the emoluments of staff members. Nathwani has shown professionalism and made the staff happy," said a GCA official on conditions of anonymity.

Meanwhile, when GCA officials turned out in support of Amit Shah in Gandhinagar on Friday, they were caught in the cross-fire between the ruling BJP and Congress. "Though it wasn't compulsory, it was necessary to go Gandhinagar and show support to Shah. I don't want to go into legalities and debate on whether he is guilty or not. Why make an issue out of it? Everyone has to stand by his boss, if the latter is in trouble," said a GCA official, who didn't want to be named.

The GCA official is dejected with the political fight. "I just hope this doesn't affect cricket and my life. Am trying my best to avoid it, but can't do it. I want it to end fast," he said.

However, former GCA president and Congress leader Narhari Amin reportedly slammed the official's move and accused Shah of misusing GCA machinery for his personal work.

Countering Amin's remarks, the GCA official continued, "How can Amin say that?  During the assembly elections not only the GCA office bearers but the staff members were campaigning for him in Matar (his constituency),” said the official, who paid regular visits to Matar in 2007.
