Naroda Patiya case: Doctor fails to honour summons

A doctor of the Civil Hospital, who had performed post mortem of the dead bodies of the victims of the Naroda Patiya massacre, has tendered an apology for dishonoring a summons issued to him by the special court. Dr. VK Parghi was not present to give his testimony despite a summons issued by the court.

According to case details, Dr. Jyotsana Yagnik, the special judge, is conducting the Naroda Patiya trial on day-to-day basis according to the directions issued by the apex court. A team of doctors had performed post mortem of the dead bodies of the victims of the Naroda Patiya massacre, which had taken place on February 28, 2002.

During the testimony of the witnesses, the judge had issued summons to Dr. VK Parghi. The doctor had to be present before the court on the morning of January 13. However, when the court and government pleader Gaurang Vyas had called the doctor for the testimony, he was not available.

The judge then passed an order to the health secretary and Civil Hospital authorities against the doctor for showing negligence. However, during the afternoon session, Dr. Parghi appeared in the court and tendered an apology. The court then withdrew its order.
