Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday revealed plans to promote Brand Gujarat by introducing a special package for small and medium enterprise (SME) sector.

The CM was addressing a large gathering of industrialists and businessmen in Bangalore as part of a series of road-shows ahead of the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January. He had held similar road-shows in Mumbai and Chennai earlier.

"Gujarat proposes to evolve a special package for small and medium enterprise sector with a common 'Made in Gujarat' brand. Our goal is to build 'Brand Gujarat' as an international brand," Modi told the audience.

This can be achieved only by ensuring excellence in quality through international packaging, common branding and global marketing and access to international markets, he said further.

The CM wooed investors in the IT hub by showcasing the state as an ideal investment destination. Modi also said that the state was keen on fostering private-public partnership in various sectors, and was open to the idea of private firms taking up initiatives. He also spoke about possibilities of developing strategic ties between both states.

"The business communities of Gujarat and Karnataka can complement each others' expertise. Karnataka dominates in automobile and auto component, engineering, electronics, steel and IT sectors, while Gujarat is ahead in pharmaceuticals, textiles, cement, paper, diamond cutting & processing," the CM said.

Modi invited industrialists and investors from Bangalore to take part in the fifth edition of Vibrant Gujarat.

The chief minister also said that Gujarat had taken a number of steps such as e-governance, e-procurement, tax information system, among others to encourage use of Information Technology.

There are plans to turn Gujarat into a model of good governance and make the coming era a golden era to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of the state, he said further.

The CM told the gathering that delegates from nearly 80 countries were expected to take part in the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit as against 47 countries in the last event.
