Chief minister Narendra Modi has written a letter to the Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee over the issue of Lokpal bill. The letter is in response to the letter of Mukherjee, who is the chairman of the joint Lokpal Bill drafting committee, seeking opinion of the state government on the proposed Lokpal Bill.

In his letter, sent early this week, Modi has welcomed the initiative of setting up the institution of Lokpal to stop corruption in government. However, he has asked for the full draft of the Bill.

“As I understand, the six issues referred to by you are based on differences between group of ministers and civil society members. It is difficult for us to give an opinion unless the full draft of the proposed Bill is provided to state government and political parties,” Modi has said in the letter.

“It would be more appropriate that state is consulted after Central government prepares a final draft proposal regarding Lokpal Bill to be introduced in the parliament,” the CM has suggested in the end of the letter. Modi has opined that any consultation at this stage appears to be premature and a mere casual process.
