The controversy over Amitabh Bachchan being appointed as the brand ambassador of Gujarat notwithstanding, chief minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the charismatic star for the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Celebration. Apart from extending the invitation to Bachchan on his blog, the CM also expressed grief over the plane crash tragedy in Mangalore.

He also talked about the heat wave in Gujarat and blamed the UPA government for the losses that cotton farmers in the state suffered. Writing in his blog on Tuesday, Modi said Gujarat is excited by Bachchan's visit and a grand reception awaits him. He said Amitabh faced many accusations for being the brand ambassador of Gujarat tourism, yet he did not back out.

"Even his fans were worried if he could withstand such severe onslaught of criticism. But Amitabhji stood tall and refused to back down from his commitment," he wrote

Modi said that by keeping his word, Amitabhji set high standards of professionalism and ethics.

He said that in the extreme heat wave condition when most wouldn't even think of visiting Kutch even if paid for the same, Amitabhji has agreed to spend three days in the Rann of Kutch to promote tourism and that to free of cost. "His altruism speaks of his love for Gujarat and India," Modi wrote.

Expressing grief over the Mangalore crash he said, "The tragedy reminds me of a similar painful mishap in Ahmedabad in 1989.  At that time I worked as a volunteer helping the affected."

"The Mangalore crash reminded me of the painful scenes from the earlier crash. I pray that no such incident takes place in the future," he said.

Blaming the UPA government for the woes of Gujarat's cotton farmers he said that the ban on cotton export by the centre has resulted in heavy loss of about Rs2000 crore to the state's farmers in a span of just one month.

"Though the centre has rectified its decision and subsequently allowed export with licence, the delay has already caused much damage to our farmers," he said.
