Madhya Pradesh minister for gas relief and rehabilitation, Babulal Gaur today said that it was not correct to blame only Arjun Singh for the events that followed the Bhopal gas disaster, but Congress party and the central government at that time were also responsible.

"It is no use blaming only Arjun Singh since the entire Congress and the central government at that time was equally responsible for all that happened including release of Warren Anderson after the gas tragedy," Gaur said.

He said all governments at the Centre including even those led by the BJP had been 'totally apathetic' to the problems of the gas victims.

"There is no point blaming only one party for the indifference shown by the Centre towards the Bhopal victims as all of them behaved in almost the same manner," Gaur said.

He also said that he has been invited to attend the group of ministers (GoM) meeting called by the union home minister P Chidambaram on June 18.

The minister said that he would raise various issues at the meeting including getting the remaining 20 wards of Bhopal declared as gas affected and also for raising compensation as per the American standards.

He said that the GoM headed by former human resources development (HRD) minister; Arjun Singh also accepted that the remaining wards should also be declared as gas affected as the spread of gas was not confined to particular wards, but affected the entire city.
