Targeting Narendra Modi on the 10th anniversary of the Godhra train carnage, Congress on Monday dismissed his bid to reinvent himself as an exercise in futility saying it will end in utter failure, even as BJP rubbished the contention calling him a man of development.

"Modi's attempt to reinvent himself will be a failure. Truth will prevail," Congress spokesperson Renuka Chaudhary told reporters here.

Congress has always been targeting the Gujarat Chief Minister in the wake of the violence after the Godhra incident and has often demanded his resignation on moral grounds following court orders in various related matters.

On the other hand, BJP at its briefing described Modi as a man of development and alleged that Congress was attacking him after being politically "wiped out" from the state.

"Narendra Modi is a personality which not only BJP or any state unit or any state acknowledges, it is in the country and in the international scenario that he has been widely accepted as the man of development," BJP spokesperson Jagat Prakash Nadda said.

He rejected the remark that Modi is trying to reinvent himself ten years after the post-Godhra riots which continue to haunt him.

"As far as Godhra issue is concerned, I would like to say that Congress is not pained by Godhra, it is pained by the wiping out of Congress in Gujarat. And they are suffering from this pain," Nadda said.

He alleged Congress had tried to play votebank politics in Gujarat and Modi had foiled all such plans.
