A tremor measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale was felt in Junagadh on Saturday afternoon. The epicentre of the tremor was Talala taluka, according to Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) officials.

The earthquake was recorded at 12.31 pm in Junagadh and surrounding places. The tremor was also felt in Rajkot, Amreli and other places in Saurashtra.

Panic-stricken people rushed out of their homes, even as power supply was disrupted in few areas. The quake was not felt in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

The district administrations and the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority sprung into action following the tremor to assess the damage. Fortunately, no major damage took place in the quake.

"We have received a report saying that no major damage has been caused by the earthquake," said an official in the state emergency control room.

The official said that a few aftershocks, measuring 1 to 2 on the Richter scale, had been recorded in the area. He, however, said that the aftershocks were continuing since October 20, when a 5.3 intensify quake had hit Junagadh, which was felt in Saurashtra, Ahmedabad and other parts of the state. The officials attribute the continuing aftershocks to an active quake faultline near Talala.
