A MICA student will host an international short film festival in Bhubaneswar from February 25-27, 2011. The festival aims to educate the masses of Orissa in differentiating a serious film from the regular Bollywood flick.

PGDM student Jubanashwa Mishra, who is to pass out in January 2011, will be organising this film festival. "This is my first initiative in educating masses from Orissa about short films. In a way, I also want them to take this ahead and make short films that will be appreciated and accepted both at national and international levels," said Mishra.

The festival-cum-competition has been kept open for all genres of movies. Every movie has been allocated a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 22 minutes.

Having initially planned to set up an NGO for the uplift of Orissa film industry, Mishra later established MXREACH Communication, a registered profitable firm. He said, "With thousands of NGOs coming up in India, very few trust these organisations making it difficult to garner public support for genuine organisations. Therefore, I set up MXREACH Communications and have four verticals under it - entertainment, media, marketing and communications."

The source of inspiration for Mishra's film festival-cum-competition was the Nigerian film industry. "I have been studying the Nigerian film industry for the past few months. What I found is that their film industry, which is just 20-years-old, has carved out both audience and directors for their films. Their films are interesting and informative. If Nigerians can do it, so can people of Orissa," Mishra said.

Mishra is likely to spend around Rs15 lakh for the entire festival and wants to showcase at least 80 films during the film festival.
