Mercury rises in Jammu & Kashmir, Kargil reels under intense cold

In Kashmir valley, the minimum temperature rose providing much needed relief to the people reeling under intense cold conditions.

Minimum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir rose by a few notches thus providing much needed respite to people from cold conditions even as Kargil in Ladakh region was the coldest place with a low of minus 12 degrees Celsius.
   
Leh recorded a low of minus 10 deg C against minus 11 deg C yesterday, Met office said here.
   
In Kashmir valley, the minimum temperature rose providing much needed relief to the people reeling under intense cold conditions.
   
Srinagar recorded a low of 1.2 degrees Celsius against minus 0.6 deg C yesterday.
   
Qazigund and Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a minimum of 0.4 deg C and 2.1 deg C.
   
However, Pahalgam, a hill resort, and Kupwara in north Kashmir settled at minus 1.6 deg C and minus 0.2 deg C.
   
The minimum temperature in Jammu region also showed an upward trend with Jammu city settling at 13.1 deg C, two degrees above normal.
   
Katra, base camp for Vaishno Devi shrine, recorded a low of 12.6 deg C followed by Batote at 7.4 deg C.
   
Bhaderwah recorded a minimum of 4.4 deg C and Banihal 3.2 deg C.
