Mentally challenged woman gives birth in the open

A mentally challenged woman ended up giving birth to a baby on the premises of a theatre at Khokhra. Later hospital authorities refused to admit her but eventually relented after the intervention of a councillor. According to social activist, Harshad Patel, he was called to the place by owner of Anupam Theatre, Jasu Patel.

Jasu saw the woman writhing in pain at the theatre's compound. He informed social workers in the area including Harshad. The social activist reached the spot and called for emergency service.

Sources said that the woman delivered the baby before the service could reach her. Many people gathered at the spot as the news spread. The woman was later given preliminary medical treatment and rushed to LG Hospital. But the hospital authorities refused to admit the woman. The woman and her child were later admitted by the hospital following the intervention of Khokra councillor, Nayan Brahmbhatt.

Talking to DNA, Brahmbhatt said he asked the hospital authorities to treat the woman and that he will pay the expenses. Sources said that both the woman and child are doing fine. 

Brahmbhatt said the woman will be later refereed to a mental hospital while the child will be kept at an observation home in Khanpur till the woman is well to take care of it. 
Meanwhile, Harshad has filed a non-cognizable offence at Amraiwadi police station in this connection.
