Mayawati condemns Pune blast

Condemning the Pune blast, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati today demanded that the Centre work out a permanent solution to the terror menace.

"My government and the party strongly condemn the terror strike in Pune and demand that the Centre immediately work out a permanent solution to the problem," Mayawati told reporters here.

She said such incidents not only result in loss of life and property, but also create an atmosphere of terror.

"Such a situation is not good for the country," the chief minister said.

Mayawati said her government had received inputs from the media as well as the Centre that terrorists could also target
Kanpur. "Taking the information seriously, the government immediately rushed Additional Director General of Police (law
and order) to Kanpur yesterday, who reviewed the entire situation."

Police and administration officials in every district have been asked to maintain a vigil and ensure implementation
of directives issued by the government earlier regarding terror strikes in the state, she said.
