The Samajwadi Party today here said that even if the Finance Commission agrees to help the Uttar Pradesh government by releasing funds to undertake various developmental activities, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati would again use it in installing statues.

Speaking to reporters here, state SP president Akhilesh Yadav said, "The Bahujan Samaj Party government in the state is not utilising money meant for development activities. Even if the Finance Commission team, which will be on a two-day visit to the state releases money, it would again be diverted in installing statues of Mayawati, which the SP did not want."

Demanding an account of utilisation of money released by Central agencies, Yadav said that Mayawati government should first tell people, where all the Centre funds meant for development had gone.

"If she (Mayawati) gets the money, she will spend it on stones and we could only hold agitations against the move," Yadav said accusing the state government of diverting funds of non-productive works like construction of parks and installation of statues.

Alleging that people of the state were bearing the brunt of the price rise due to faulty policies of the state government, Yadav said that "institutional corruption" and "misuse of government funds" were the main reasons for the price-rise in UP.

"The Mayawati government has institutionalised corruption and officers are collecting money on her behalf, due to which cost of developmental projects is escalating. Also the state government is misusing government funds, which has resulted in price rise of essential commodities in the state," Yadav said.

The SP leader also alleged that the Mayawati government had failed to maintain law and order in the state, as a result of which extortion, abduction and murders had become a routine feature in the state.
