Maoists posters found, security tightened in south Orissa

Berhampur: Security was tightened in three south Orissa districts following appearance of Maoist posters and leaflets in some areas, warning the police for alleged atrocities committed by them.

The police said additional armed police force were deployed in Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts as the posters were found pasted in public places like the panchayat office and the bazaar.

The posters were also found pasted on passenger buses, the sources said adding all the posters were seized and their genuineness was being verified.

The Maoists leaflets and posters wrote about alleged atrocities committed by the police on tribals in the past in places like Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur district and Maikancha and Mandrabaju areas of Kandhamal district.

The posters were mainly found in Baragada, situated near dense forests, in Ganjam district. Baragada was considered to be the transit point of Maoist movement and the police conducted combing operation in the area many times.

Such operations were conducted at least thrice last month, the sources said.
