Armed Maoists burnt several bridge construction machines at Chamotola in Bihar's East Champaran district, superintendent of police Umesh Kumar said today.

Over 50 ultras, armed with sophisticated weapons surrounded the Chamotola, drove the labourers out of their makeshift tents and set afire several bridge construction machines late last night, the SP said.

They burnt a generator set, a roller and a mixer machine, besides several other machines parked at the site, Kumar said.

They later escaped without causing any harm to anybody, the SP said, adding a private firm 'amba infra' was engaged in construction of a bridge over a river at Chamotola.

Raids were on in the area to nab the ultras, he said.
