A four-day-long romance with an unknown woman proved costly for a newly-wed salesman in the city. The woman, who turned out to be a cheat, gave sedatives to the man and made away with his three mobile phones and two gold rings.

Vastrapur police said that victim Jaydev Parmar, 25, a resident of Shruti-Siddhi apartment, Vejalpur, is a salesman with a car show-room in the city. Last week, while on his way to Mehsana, a woman near Judges Bungalow road requested Parmar, who was riding a motorcycle, for a lift. The young man obliged and they exchanged cell phone numbers.

After several conversations on phone, the woman identified as one Shikha, proposed to Parmar that they meet at Acropolis Mall on SG highway on Tuesday evening. After reaching there, Parmar, who had got married just a month ago, suggested that they go for a movie. The 'couple' went to PVR Cinemas on SG Highway and watched Zindagi Milegi na Dobara, police added.

However, during the show, Shikha excused herself for a visit to wash-room and returned with two cups of coffee which they drank.
Later, Parmar was found unconscious outside the theatre on Wednesday morning, said Vastrapur police inspector RS Damor.

Police admitted him to a hospital where he gained partial consciousness in the evening. "Parmar has accused Shikha of escaping with his three mobile phones and two gold rings-all worth Rs28,000," the police inspector added.

Vastrapur police have registered a case and started investigation in the matter.
