The body of a woman was found near GB Shah college in Vasna on Tuesday. The woman, identified as Hetal Masani, 26, was allegedly murdered by her husband, Kirit Masani, 27. The couple were living separately and Kirit is believed to have been going through a financial mess of late.

Hetal had earlier got married to a man about four years back but their marriage ended in a divorce. She then married Kirit, a diamond worker and a resident of Bapunagar. Kirit lost his job as the diamond industry experienced slowdown and has been unemployed for the last four months.

As Kirit ran into financial trouble, Hetal abandoned him and started living with her parents at Vasna. Their one and a half year old daughter, Pooja, stayed with Kirit, who had shifted to Parab village in Dholka district.

Hetal, in the meantime, got a job with a beauty parlour. Four days back, she had called her husband demanding custody of their daughter. Kirit then left Pooja with Hetal. On Sunday, Hetal called Kirit again and asked him to take Pooja back. Kirit did what Hetal wanted but also requested her to come back and live together as a family. Hetal, however, turned down the request.

Sources said Kirit then made up his mind about making one more attempt to bring Hetal back. On Tuesday, Kirit waited for Hetal at GB Shah College and asked her if she would reconsider her decision.

When Hetal again refused, an angry Kirit stabbed his wife twice. He then ran to Chadawad police chowki where he confessed his crime.

Hetal was rushed to VS Hospital, but succumbed to her injuries on the way. Vajalpur police have filed a case against Kirit, who reportedly broke down at the news of Hetal's death.
